RBI grade B 2026: Preparation Strategy

I. Change in Mindset – It is no more a 3-month preparation examination. It is a job at the Central Bank, it is a serious business. Start early. Build strong basics. Learn concepts with clarity. Practice enough questions to reach exam-ready accuracy and speed.

II. Study in detail – Since the examination is mix of both Objective and Descriptive, you need to start studying in detail. you need to know details like facts, numbers and also reasons and history of any particular news items

When you study any topic or news item, make short pointers under:
  • Importance
  • Reason
  • Advantages
  • Consequences
  • Challenges
  • Government steps
  • Way forward
This structure helps you build opinions and makes revision smoother.

III. Develop reading habit – For this, follow quality websites like the Business Standard, Live Mint, centralbanking.com, and also read some standard books related to Indian banking/finance industry. It helps in developing interest around the job you are aspiring. Good reading leads to good writing, which is essential for Phase 2 descriptive papers. From Day -1 whatever you read, try Typing summary of it, like whatever you understood by reading, this practice alone make you ready for answer writing.

IV. Typing Answer or Articles – Start writing or rather typing. You need to match your thinking speed with your tying speed (Yeah, it important). Typing speed matters. Many candidates think fast but type slow, and it hurts their performance in Phase 2.

  • Start typing essays, summaries, and short articles. Match your thinking speed with your typing speed.
  • Do not wait for the last three months.
  • Do not wait for perfect topics.
  • Write on anything you read online or in the newspaper. It strengthens your ability to handle unexpected questions in the exam.
  • Don’t really wait for the assessment of your written answers from experts or coaching centers, use your friends, put it in telegram groups for open assessment. Accept the criticism and build on it. Use AI tools like ChatGPT. (Link to get Prompt to analyze using ChatGPT: https://t.me/descriptive_bankexam/1460)

V. Profile building for Interview Stage (Very Important) – If you are sitting at home and doing nothing except preparation. It would be better to do any online course.

  • Take relevant online courses in economics, finance, Risk Management, Climate Finance, MSME Lending, Data Analytics, AI in Banking, Fintech etc.
  • You need to do it before March as after that you won't get much time for this Activities.
  • Courses could be done from IIBF, NISM or you can go for edX/Coursera.

RBI Grade B 2026: 6 Months Study Plan

If you have set your mind on RBI Grade B 2026, begin with the right priorities. Do not rush into current affairs or daily newspaper reading right now. Many beginners make the mistake of jumping straight into daily current affairs or reading newspapers for hours — but that is not what you need right now.

Your first target is to build strong basics in Economics, Finance, and Management, and at the same time strengthen Quant and Reasoning. If your basics are strong here, everything you study later — schemes, reports, current affairs, answer writing — becomes far easier and more meaningful.

These five subjects form the backbone of your preparation. If you can comfortably manage at least three of them by February 2026, and those three must include Quant and Reasoning, then you are right on track.

A well-planned start now will save you months of confusion later. Build your base first. Everything else will fall into place.
