If you have recently joined a bank or an approved financial institution, the JAIIB certification is one of the first and most valuable qualifications you can earn. The Indian Institute of Banking & Finance (IIBF) has released the JAIIB 2026 notification, and the November 2026 cycle is now open for planning. This guide breaks down every important detail so you can register on time and prepare with a clear roadmap.

Quick update: The IIBF released the JAIIB 2026 notification on 2 February 2026. The November cycle exam will be held on 1, 22, 28 and 29 November 2026, and registration runs from 1 August to 21 August 2026.

What is JAIIB and Why It Matters

JAIIB stands for Junior Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers. It is a flagship certification conducted by the IIBF, aimed at building strong basic knowledge about the role of the financial sector, banking and financial services, accountancy, retail banking, wealth management, digital banking products, and customer relations needed for day to day banking operations.

For working bankers, JAIIB is more than a certificate. It deepens your understanding of core banking, and in most public sector and many private banks it brings a monthly salary increment along with better prospects for promotion. Because it is a professional exam, it also keeps you updated on the latest RBI guidelines and current developments in banking and finance.

JAIIB 2026 Exam Overview

The JAIIB exam is conducted twice a year, in the May and November cycles. The May 2026 cycle is already over, so the focus now is on the November 2026 cycle. Here is a quick snapshot.

How to pass

  • The minimum marks to pass a subject is 50 out of 100.
  • A candidate who scores at least 45 marks in each subject with a 50% aggregate across all subjects in a single attempt is also declared to have completed the exam.
  • Credit for a subject you have passed can be carried forward until the time limit expires.

Attempts and time limit

  • A candidate gets 5 attempts within a maximum of 3 years, whichever is earlier, counted from the first registration.
  • These attempts need not be consecutive, but attempts are counted whenever you apply, whether or not you actually appear.
  • If you do not clear within the limit, you must re-enrol afresh and earlier subject credits are lost.

Class of pass (first physical attempt only)

  • First Class: 60% or more in aggregate with a pass in all subjects.
  • First Class with Distinction: 70% or more in aggregate and 60 or more marks in each subject.
  • Pass Class: for candidates who clear the exam but do not meet the above criteria.

JAIIB 2026 Preparation Strategy

JAIIB rewards clear concepts and steady practice rather than last minute cramming. A simple, disciplined plan works best.

  • Master concepts first: Build a strong base in each module before jumping into questions.
  • Use the IIBF courseware plus updates: The official courseware covers the syllabus, but read RBI master circulars and current developments too, since rules change fast.
  • Practice previous year and memory based questions: These reveal the exam trend and difficulty level.
  • Attempt regular mock tests: Timed mocks improve speed, accuracy, and familiarity with the online format.
  • Make short notes: Concise notes help quick revision in the final days.
  • Study strategically: Aim to clear the paper efficiently. Since there is no negative marking, never leave a question blank.
  • Stay consistent: A steady daily routine beats irregular long hours.

Important Exam Day Rules

  • Reach the venue before the reporting time. Entry is not allowed after the gate closing time on the admit card.
  • No candidate can leave the exam hall in the first 60 minutes.
  • Mobile phones and smart gadgets are banned. Mere possession, even switched off, is treated as unfair means.
  • Only a permitted basic calculator is allowed. Books, notes, and mathematical tables are not.
  • Keep the admit card login password private and do not share it.
