Post: Assistant Manager Age: 21 to 30 yrs Stages: 3 Apply: Online only
Quick Note

The SIDBI Grade A 2026 notification is expected between August and October 2026. The 2025-26 cycle already concluded (final result declared in January 2026), so the bank is likely to move to a fresh cycle. Also note that Grade A requires work experience in most cases (only Chartered Accountants and 2-year full-time MBA / PGDM holders are exempt). Read the eligibility and experience sections carefully before you apply.

SIDBI is the principal financial institution set up by an Act of Parliament for the promotion, financing, and development of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector in India. A Grade A Assistant Manager role puts you at the centre of that mission, with a strong pay package, good work-life balance, and a clear growth path. Here is everything you need to know for the 2026 attempt.

04

Educational qualification

To be eligible for SIDBI Grade A (Assistant Manager, General Stream), you must hold any one of the following qualifications:

  • Graduation with a minimum of 60% marks (50% for SC / ST / PwBD) in Commerce, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Business Administration, or Engineering.
  • Company Secretary (CS), or Certified Management Accountant (CMA / ICWA), or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).
  • Chartered Accountant (CA).
  • MBA / PGDM in any discipline (must be a full-time 2-year course) from a UGC / Govt. recognised or approved institution.
Final-year students: Candidates appearing in the final year are also eligible to apply. They must produce the final mark sheet and provisional or final degree certificate at the time of joining if selected.

At graduation level, a course of at least 3 years after Class XII from a recognised university qualifies. A post-graduation of at least 2 years after graduation also qualifies. The minimum-percentage rule (60%, or 50% for reserved categories) applies to the qualifying degree.

05

Work experience rule (read this carefully)

This is the part most aspirants miss. Unlike some other regulatory Grade A exams, SIDBI Grade A requires post-qualification work experience in most cases. Here is the clean version:

No experience needed
CA and MBA / PGDM
Chartered Accountants and 2-year full-time MBA / PGDM holders can apply as freshers.
Experience needed
Minimum 2 years
All other eligible qualifications require at least 2 years of relevant post-qualification experience.

For candidates who do need experience, at least 2 years of post-qualification experience must be in one of the two tracks below (combined experience across the sub-points within a track is acceptable).

Track A: Credit dispensation experience as a permanent officer in:

  • All India Financial Institutions (SIDBI, NABARD, NHB, EXIM Bank, NaBFID).
  • Scheduled Commercial Banks (included in the Second Schedule of the RBI Act, 1934).
  • NBFCs registered with the RBI.

Track B: Core functional experience in:

  • Investment banking or merchant banking entities registered with SEBI.
  • Alternative Investment Funds (AIFs) registered with SEBI.
  • Asset Reconstruction Companies (ARCs) registered with RBI.
  • Subsidiaries of Scheduled Commercial Banks dealing in the MSME segment.
  • Project management in consultancy firms of national stature (with a 10+ year consulting track record and specific government or digital-lending project experience).
Important: Experience relating to personal loans, education loans, vehicle loans, or housing loans is not counted. The experience must be in MSME or corporate credit, trading and small commercial loans, or the core functional areas listed above. Combined experience across Track A and Track B is also acceptable.
06

Age limit and relaxation

For Grade A, the candidate must be not below 21 years and not above 30 years as on the cut-off date specified in the notification. Upper-age relaxation is available as per Government of India rules.

CategoryAge relaxation (upper limit)
SC / ST5 years
OBC (non-creamy layer)3 years
PwBD (Unreserved / EWS)10 years
PwBD + OBC13 years (cumulative)
PwBD + SC / ST15 years (cumulative)
Ex-servicemen5 years (as per rules)
Persons affected by 1984 riots5 years

Permanent SIDBI staff candidates get an additional 5-year relaxation over and above their category relaxation. Exact cut-off dates change every cycle, so confirm them in the 2026 notification.

Selection process

SIDBI Grade A selection is a three-stage process. Phase 1 is only a screening test; the final merit is decided by Phase 2 and the interview.

1
Phase 1: Online screening

One objective paper of 200 marks with seven sections. Only shortlisting for Phase 2 is based on the Merit section score. Marks here do not count towards the final merit.

2
Phase 2: Online mains

Two papers of 200 marks total, including English descriptive and subject objective plus descriptive. This score carries forward to the final merit.

3
Phase 3: Psychometric test and interview

A psychometric test followed by a personal interview of 100 marks. The final selection is based on Phase 2 plus interview performance.

Key point: The calling ratio for Phase 2 is up to 1:25. Final ranking is based only on Phase 2 marks plus interview marks, so Phase 1 must be cleared but does not add to your final score.
09

Phase 1 exam pattern

Phase 1 is a single objective paper of 200 questions, 200 marks, 120 minutes. It is bilingual (Hindi and English) except the English Language test. The seven sections are split into a Qualifying section and a Merit section.

SectionTestQuestionsMarks
QualifyingEnglish Language3030
Reasoning Aptitude2525
Quantitative Aptitude2525
Computer Knowledge2020
MeritGeneral Awareness (Banking, Financial, Economic and Social)2020
MSMEs: Policy, Regulatory and Legal Framework; Finance and Management3030
Stream Specific Test (MSME financing)5050
Total200200
Shortlisting logic: The Qualifying section (English, Reasoning, Quant, Computer) must be cleared by sectional cut-offs, but shortlisting for Phase 2 is based on the Merit section score only (General Awareness + MSMEs + Stream Specific = 100 marks). So the MSME-heavy sections are where the game is really decided.
10

Phase 2 exam pattern (General Stream)

Phase 2 for Assistant Manager Grade A (General Stream) has two papers totalling 200 marks. Paper I is English descriptive; Paper II combines an objective test and a descriptive test.

PaperTestTypeQuestionsMarksTime
Paper IEnglish Language (Essay, Precis, Comprehension, Business or Office Correspondence)Descriptive37575 min
Paper IIMSME, Finance and Management, MSME financing, NPA and recovery, etc. Objective (bilingual)507560 min
Same syllabus, plus Investment Banking, Merchant Banking, AIFs, ARCsDescriptiveAttempt 4 of 105075 min
Total200

In the Paper II descriptive, 10 questions are asked and you attempt 4 (two of 15 marks each and two of 10 marks each). Descriptive answers are typed on-screen. Some objective questions carry 2 marks and some carry 1 mark.

Why English matters: The Phase 2 English paper alone is 75 marks out of 200, plus there is a 50-mark subject descriptive. Roughly 125 of the 200 Phase 2 marks are descriptive or writing-based, which is why answer writing is a decisive skill for SIDBI Grade A.
11

Job profile

As a Grade A Assistant Manager (General Stream), you contribute across the core operations of the bank:

  • Business development, appraisal of MSME credit proposals, sanctions, and disbursements.
  • Customer management, credit monitoring and follow-up, and timely review or renewal of accounts.
  • Growing the direct-credit portfolio and onboarding new customers.
  • Representing SIDBI on various forums and credit committees.
  • Managing SMAs and NPAs, coordinating legal recovery, and submitting MIS reports.
14

Preparation strategy

SIDBI Grade A rewards a domain-first, writing-strong approach. Here is a practical plan.

1
Own the MSME and financing sections

The Merit section (MSME policy, MSME financing, stream specific) decides Phase 1 shortlisting and dominates Phase 2. Build a strong base in credit assessment, IRAC norms, working-capital and term-loan appraisal, and NBFC financing.

2
Clear the qualifying sections comfortably

English, Reasoning, Quant, and Computer only need to cross their cut-offs. Practise enough to be safe, but do not over-invest here.

3
Make answer writing a daily habit

About 125 of 200 Phase 2 marks are descriptive. Practise essays, precis, business letters, and structured subject answers within word and time limits from the start.

4
Stay current

Track banking, economy, MSME policy, and regulatory current affairs through the exam window, since questions can be asked on the latest developments.

5
Mock, review, repeat

Take full-length mocks with negative marking (1/4 per wrong answer) to fix accuracy and time management. Review every mock deeply.

15
